Currently, my four-year-old thinks he’s a pirate. He also thinks he’s a ninja. (All of this thinking makes for some really funny imaginative moments when he believes Mommy’s not paying attention or watching him).
This fascination actually began with the Usborne non-fiction book below. After reading this (over and over and over again, the interest began to grow.)
Pirates, Level 2: Internet Referenced (Beginners Social Studies – New Format)
The fascination blossomed even more this summer after going on his own kids’ pirate-themed tour in Charleston, SC. If you’re ever in Charleston, you should definitely check it out.
Anyhow, we love pirates in this house and anytime we find a picture book or library book about them, we snag it.
Below is an ever-growing list of our favorite pirate-themed books.
Pirateria: The Wonderful Plunderful Pirate EmporiumHardcover – July 10, 2012
This was a real favorite. I can’t even tell you how many times Finn asked to read this book!
The Pirates Next Door Hardcover – February 28, 2012
Told from the perspective of a little girl who has pirates move into her neighborhood, this cute tale is sure to make a smile!
Pirates of the Sea! Hardcover – April 26, 2011
We’ve borrowed this one from the library twice.
Pirates Past Noon (Magic Tree House, No. 4) Paperback – March 8, 1994
Pirates Go to School Hardcover – July 1, 2011
Pirate Princess Hardcover – May 8, 2012
To be honest, when I first picked up this book off the shelf at the library, I nearly put it right back. However, I decided to borrow it and we enjoyed it. I loved that it was from a girl’s perspective; since I have two boys, I’m trying to help them learn from an early age that girls are just as capable and valuable as they are!
Pirates Love Underpants (The Underpants Books) Hardcover – September 3, 2013
My son loved this funny little story.
Now it’s your turn! What are your favorite pirate-themed books?
